Ziryab，十世紀左右非常出名的音樂家，他建立了阿拉伯音樂的架構。

1.中國～埃及北部
2.伊拉克音樂家→西班牙
3.奧圖曼土耳其帝國→影響希臘、德國、埃及
　1930~1970埃及黃金年代
4.東非：蘇丹、衣索比亞

埃及剛好位在這幾條路線的交集。

1890~1920年代，埃及的高級夜店當中，舞者會穿著balady表演，這時期有廣播和電影。

Badia Masabni生於敘利亞，童年在阿根廷，成年後回到敘利亞，後來到埃及，她在埃及是有名的歌手和演員。

Samia Gamal和Tahia Carioca，是有名的兩位舞者，從Badia Masabni出來的。

Nadia Gamal, popular in Lebanon, 1960-s and 70's. Originally from Alexandria Egypt, she was the last dancer to be trained by Badia Masabni.



1970年代~1990年代初期，Tamalyn將之稱為Hey Day時期。這時期開始有電視，因此肚皮舞表演非常廣為人知。
這時期的舞者地位很高，可以自己作主，有自己的樂隊，完成自己的製作。

Nagwa Fouad,是這個時期非常有名的表演者，她能歌善舞、還是演員和製作人，還有開過workshop。

1950年代埃及第一位總統Nasser原本想要禁肚皮舞，但被輿論反對，後來要求舞者要穿遮住肚子的服裝，但是舞者們表演時開始露腿。

之後電視開始禁播肚皮舞，肚皮舞又開始跟人民產生距離，現在知名舞者Dina，為了抗議這種政策，故意穿著很性感，也跳一些比較性感的舞蹈動作。
